Job Overview

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to oversee the educational function and public programming of the biggest Arts Institution in Zimbabwe, reporting to the Deputy Executive Director.


The Curator for Education and Public Programming is responsible for:

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Oversee the growth and development of the art school and be the lead person to navigate its accreditation and academy establishment;
  • Oversee and coordinate the art instructors in best practice;
  • Supervise the development of the Education Programme of the gallery and making full use of Collections and Exhibitions;
  • Oversee the staging of non-formal workshops for pupils in the Gallery and beyond;
  • Supervise educational information and pamphlets for various audiences;
  • Create youth-centered education programs;
  • Oversee the reinforcement and consolidation of ties with core schools and establish and maintain postal contact with a selection of high density and provincial schools;
  • Conceive, direct, implement and evaluate public programming for young people and adults;
  • Direct production of the termly newsletters and maintain weekly contact with member schools to enable them to visit the gallery to access programs throughout the year;
  • Continue to market the culture box and consider smaller themed boxes with accompanying information;
  • Create new boxes for various audiences using Permanent Collection and aspects of iconic visual heritage;
  • Oversee and direct termly workshops for art teachers offering theoretical and practical tips for teaching art in the classrooms and making use of the collections;
  • Associate editor of the artlife magazine;
  • Manage and roll out projects as directed by the Deputy Executive Director


  • A Bachelor’s degree in Curatorship, Museum Studies, Fine Arts, Fine Arts and Education;
  • History and Literature, Art History, or Architecture;
  • A Master’s degree in the above studies will be an added advantage

Technical Skills and Prior Experience

  • 5 years minimum prior experience in the education and public programming in the arts sector.
  • Experience working in a government setting will be an added advantage;
  • Experience with design and writing programs using ICT gadgets – 3D etc;
  • Good oral and written communication skills; self- motivation; initiative and ability to work as a team.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, IT and numerical abilities;
  • Good copy editing and proofreading skills.
