The current UNICEF-Government of Zimbabwe Country Programme of Cooperation (2016-2020) aims to support Zimbabwe to sustain and build upon the gains achieved for children during the 2012-2015 Country Programme of Cooperation. The programme focuses on improving the quality of social services, increasing access to services, and helping to build national and sub-national capacities to provide low-cost, high-impact interventions for all children, especially the most vulnerable.

How can you make a difference?

A challenging and exciting opportunity has arisen within UNICEF Zimbabwe for a passionate and committed Health Officer (Emergencies). Reporting to the Chief of Health and Nutrition, the Emergency Health Officer  (Emergencies) provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for the Health and Nutrition Section within the Country Programme, from development planning to delivery of results, by preparing, executing, managing, and implementing a variety of technical and administrative programme tasks as related to health emergency preparedness and response.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  • Support to programme development and planning
  • Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results
  • Technical and operational support to programme implementation
  • Networking and partnership building
  • Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • A university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health/nutrition, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, environmental health sciences, biostatistics, socio-medical, health education, epidemiology, or another relevant technical field

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public health/nutrition planning and management, maternal and neonatal health care, or health emergency/humanitarian preparedness.
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset. Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset
