Job Purpose

To use insights gained from ongoing industry, business and consumer research to consistently create and publish compelling media content and develop a narrative that correctly aligns stakeholder and public perception with the business’ value propositions, mission, economic and social impact

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Marketing, Research and Communication, or related fields.
  • Relevant qualification in Media Studies, and training or hands-on experience in Content Management is important in this role
  • Experience in with digital media agency, a news media or research organization will be an added advantage
  • 4-6 years’ experience in a similar or related environment
  • Prospective candidates must possess strong leadership qualities
  • Must be a team player, able to work with diverse, cross-functional teams in a large corporation
  • Must have impeccable writing skills and a strong command of the English language
  • Attention to detail is essential in this role

Key Result Areas

  • Manages the media research and content development portfolio
  • Researches on developments in the global digital, telecom, technology, fintech, m and e-commerce and related industries, and in the local industries and markets in which our businesses operate
  • Designs and uses effective research tools to effectively gather, review and use scientific research feedback to feed into relevant media and content development
  • Creates and develops content depicting the various product and service offers on the market
  • Writes and publishes articles unpacking the value propositions of existing products and services across the industry, evaluating their benefits to consumers
  • Works with media partners to publish articles reviewing new products and services, their unique selling propositions and their value to various market segments (consumer market, SMEs, corporate and enterprise customers)
  • Studies and thoroughly familiarize him/herself with the business strategy and various business initiatives, and develops content that aggregates and correctly positions the organization’s corporate social investment initiatives
  • Reviews business, industry, consumer and media reports from accredited sources to keep abreast with the company’s perception among multiple public stakeholders
  • Widely reads published stories about our businesses to fact-check and correct falsehoods and inaccuracies with the responsible media publishers.
  • Supports marketing events, product launches and Press briefings, across the corporate brands, the regions and among the different SBUs
  • Captures relevant content (visuals, pictures, videos) at Econet events, expos or exhibitions, for immediate media release across multiple media channels, for filing and for use by other departments in the business
  • Develops and manages an electronic library of past and present content relating to the business, its corporate social investment initiatives and its brands.
  • Works closely with the Digital Media team to ensure effective and optimum use of online and digital platforms for content distribution
  • Builds sound working relationships with within the wider corporate group, especially in the Commercial, Marketing, Product Development, Sales & Distribution and Customer Services departments, and with relevant external stakeholders, to ensure effective media management
  • Works closely with specialized content development and media agencies and companies to meet departmental KPIs
  • Makes critical input into the company’s 360° media management strategy
