Job Overview

This senior managerial role works closely with the Chief Operating Officer and the Heads of Departments and is responsible for;

Manages the company fleet & 3rd party transporters to ensure quick, smooth & safe collections & deliveries

Major Activities required in achieving desired output:

  • Develops strategy and plans for products movement by liaising with Line managers to establish an efficient transport system and reach KPIs
  • Plans and executes the movement of imports and exports
  • Manage customer service activities & customer satisfaction and interfaces with Sales, and Production, to ensure that customer service creates competitive advantage in market place including resolving critical customer complaints
  • Ensures that transportation modes, frequency of transport and routing are as efficient and as cost effective as possible and continuously looks for ways to make improvements
  • Researches and recommends the purchase of automated systems and other improved technology that will increase the company’s profitability
  • Identifies, selects & coordinates 3rd party logistics partners (3PL) based on capacity and performance evaluations
  • Runs root/cause analysis to resolve transport & fleet issues timeously
  • Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates

Monitors & controls transport costs & revenue in line with set KPIs

Major Activities required in achieving desired output:

  • Sets & executes the Transport & Logistics budget in line with Company strategy & corporate goals
  • Manages Transport & Logistics costs & revenue and ensures all KPIs are reached
  • Efficiently evaluates the costs of transportation, services and inventory within budget or distribution strategy and negotiates transport services and rates with customers and 3rd party transporters
  • Ensures a cost effective and competitive transport fleet benchmarked with best practices in transport industry


Responsible for all maintenance, upkeep, security and general appearance of the Transport infrastructure, assets, equipment & stocks

Responsible for leading, managing & developing a high performing Transport and Logistics team aligned with Company HR Policy, Values & Behaviours

Responsible for the Transport and Logistics corporate risk controls & for ensuring compliance with legal & company requirements

You must hold relevant qualification in transport and logistics to apply for this senior role – preferably working with a large transport distributor
